Bonjour from the South of France! Over the next week, I’ll be giving you a little peek into my recent trip to this sun-soaked corner of Europe – destination by destination. Next Up…Monaco!
A Dreamy Day Exploring Monaco,
If you’ve ever daydreamed about the South of France, let me tell you—it’s even better in real life. I recently spent the most magical day exploring Monaco and I honestly couldn’t wait to sit down and share every beautiful moment.
We kicked off the day in Antibes, where we met our lovely driver for the day. I can’t imagine doing this trip without a private transfer- with the stress of parking completely out the window, all we had to do was sit back, relax, and soak up the views. And oh wow, those views. The drive along the coast, winding up into the mountains through Nice and into Monaco, felt like something out of a movie. Pastel buildings, flower-draped balconies, the glittering sea peeking through narrow city streets—and yachts everywhere. It was magic.
Let’s Go to Monaco!
Our first stop was the glitzy, glamorous Monaco. As soon as we parked, we headed straight for the marina to stroll past yachts that looked like floating palaces. It’s the kind of place where you can grab a snack, perch on a bench, and just watch the world go by. And trust me, the people-watching in Monaco is next level.
We wandered past the iconic Fairmont Hairpin (Formula 1 fans, you’ll know exactly what I mean!) and continued up toward the Monte-Carlo Casino. Along the way, we passed elegant restaurants, peaceful green spaces like the Japanese Garden and the Princess Grace Rose Garden, and some seriously stylish shops and cafés. The architecture in Monaco is just stunning—if you’re into old buildings with character, French charm, and a little Italian flair, this place is a dream.

Getting to Know Monaco
Monaco may be the second smallest country in the world (after the Vatican), but it packs in centuries of fascinating history. The ruling Grimaldi family has been in power since 1297—yep, over 700 years! Prince Albert II currently reigns, following in the footsteps of his parents, the beloved Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace (formerly American actress Grace Kelly).
Thanks to its strategic position along the Mediterranean and its status as a tax haven, Monaco has long attracted royalty, celebrities, and billionaires. But even if you don’t arrive by yacht or helicopter, you’ll find plenty to fall in love with here.

What to Do in Monaco: The Must-See Highlights
Monte-Carlo Casino & Square
- Even if you don’t fancy a flutter, the Monte-Carlo Casino is a must-see. The architecture is stunning, and the square outside is perfect for car spotting (think Bugattis, Ferraris, and Rolls Royces parked like it’s no big deal).
The Prince’s Palace (Palais Princier)
- Head up to Monaco-Ville (a.k.a. Le Rocher) for a peek into royal life. You can watch the Changing of the Guard at 11:55 AM daily and tour parts of the palace when it’s open to the public.
Oceanographic Museum
- A great spot for families and ocean lovers, this historic museum was once directed by Jacques Cousteau and showcases impressive marine exhibits in a stunning cliffside location.
The Monaco Cathedral
- Visit the final resting place of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier. The cathedral is beautiful and free to enter.
Larvotto Beach
- Yes, Monaco has a public beach! Grab a towel and enjoy a few hours on the (pebbly) sand—perfect for a break from sightseeing.
Japanese Garden
- A peaceful retreat in the heart of the city, this serene spot is free and beautifully maintained.
The Marina (Port Hercule)
Stroll along the waterfront, admire the yachts, and soak up the luxe Mediterranean atmosphere.

Must-Do’s in Monaco
A couple of things I highly recommend doing while you’re in town:
Walk from the marina up to the Palace for incredible views and photo spots.
Enjoy an aperitif on Casino Square—expensive, yes, but even one drink gives you an unforgettable people-watching experience.
Explore the Old Town (Monaco-Ville) with its narrow streets, gift shops, and eateries.
Visit the Exotic Gardens (Jardin Exotique) for cacti, succulents, and a jaw-dropping panorama.
Watch the sun set from the Port de Fontvieille—less touristy, more local.
Sunset strolls – whether you’re up by the old fort or down along the beach, Antibes serves up serious golden hour magic.
